Garadus, senior inspector of secondary schools, and director of educational services, R.N.Z.A.F., is on a Visit to Dunedin. At last night’s meeting of the City, Council, the appointment of Mr R. T.Meadowcroft as foreman of the mains and service laying department was confirmed. Mr Meadowcroft has been in the employ of the department for 13 years, and has acted as relief foreman , on occasions. The present foreman retires on March 31. Dr John S. Tomb, of Norwich, Eng- ' land, has been appointed radiologist to •• the Cook Hospital; Gisborne. Thera were six applicants for the position, from Great Britain. Australia, and’ New Zealand. Mr C. S. Bowie was last night appointed assistant town clerk of Christ-' church. There were 132 applicants. Mr Bowie is at present accountant 'itt the city treasury department. The committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union, in its annual report,: congratulates Mr H. • Harris 'on being elected a life member of the New Zealand Rugby. Reference to the loss suffered by th® Otago Boys’ Cricket Association through the death of Mr R, G. Hudson - was made by the chairman (Mr E. H. , Fergusson) at the,/annual meeting of the association last night. Mr Hudson'had been a vice-president and an enthusiastic •- supporter of the association since its inception, Mr Fergusson said. Dr Edward G. Sayers, of Auckland, has been awarded the Cilerito Medal for 1940 by the Institute of Anatomy of Canberra for his work for native welfare in the tropics. Dr Sayers, who has practised in Auckland for the last five years, - will go into camp early in March., and will later take up a post with New Zealand’s overseas forces as specialist’’ in tropical at the first general hospital. Born in Christchurch, Dr’ Sayers, who is 37 years of age, studied at the Otago University and in England, where he obtained, the diploma , of tropical medicine v and hygiene. Ha-' spent seven years with the natives in’ 1 the Solomon Islands before going to Auckland, where ho has been a member of the honorary staff of the Auckland Hospital. Dr Sayers is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. - Superintendent F. L. Lewin, who has been stationed at Wellington for ■ the past two years, retires on March .19. He joined the force as a constable' at Christchurch in 1897, and later- : served at Timaru, Amberley, Welling- ' ton. Gore, Dunedin,--Christ-ohtfreh,-and-, Auckland. He was appointed inspector of Nelson district _in 1928, and.--superintendent , at Wellington, in 1935, He intends to live in ./ Press Association. .
