(Received February 23, at 8 a.m.) Rear-Admiral Byrd, in a radio message, said five attempts to reach ‘the Antarctic coast failed. The or Oakland, battered by gales and ice, hove-to. He is making a final attempt! to-morrow, but fears that the early freezing of the pack has stopped exploration in this longitude.
