A. AND P. SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P.,Society, held on Thursday afternoon, was attended by Messrs W. Lee (vice-presi-dent), in the chair, J. Mitchell, A. C. Begg, H. M. Driver, R. T. Kirk, W. S. Thomson, G. T. M'Callum, D. Ireland, S. P. Cameron, E. M. North, and'C. M. Bruce. ' - Before the commencement, of business the chairman referred' to the deaths of Mr R. Shennan (Berwick), Mr Newman Wilson, and Mr S. Bowman, who had all been loyal supporters of the society. He specially mentioned the work of Mr Bowman as a committeeman, past president, and treasurer. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to their memory. Mr W. D. Stuart (Sandymount) and Mr J. H. Muirhead (Ashburton) were elected members of the society. Accounts amounting to £334 15s 2d were passed for payment. It was noted that the bank balance was in debit
£137 19s 2d, and outstanding cheques amounted to £35 14s lOd. As the financial year of the society ends on March 31, it was decided to send out accounts for all outstanding subscriptions. Mr 0. M. Bruce was unanimously elected treasurer of the society to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Bowman. Mr C. T. M'Callum, the recentlyappointed new member of the committee for the Palmerston district, was welcomed by the chairman, who said that he felt sure the society would materially benefit from Mr M'Callum’s term of office. i Rate valuations for the Crawford street buildings were received, and it was noted that these had been considerably increased. It was decided that if , the horse fair this year was held on May 30 and 31 the winter show should be held on May 31, June 1,3, 4, and 5. A report of the damage done to the society's premises when an attempt was made to break open the safe during the Christmas holidays was submitted, the estimated cost of repairs and replacements being £5.
The Grounds and Buildings Committee reported that the Brydone ;Hall roof had been tarred at accost of £35, and a request to have some trees at Tabuna Park reihoved was, referred to this committee, with power to act. It was noted that the dairy, factory; schedule would go out before the end of the month, and special prizes given in this section by the’New.’Zealand Cooperative Rennet Company, South Island Dairy Association, the J. B. Ford' Co. (New Zealand) Ltd., the Co-opera-tive Dairy Company of Otago were received'with thanks; As the full schedule would be required for the printers immediately after the next meeting, the secretary was instructed to post a copy to the members of. sub-committees in charge of each section,, so that any alterations or additions could be made. Some discussion took place regarding the method of selling at the ram fair, and the secretary was instructed to confer with the Stock and Station Agents’ Association to see if it could hot be speeded up. It was decided to close the entries for the on March 16, as it was necessary to print the catalogue before the Easter holidays.
