WOMEN’S BOWLING
THE RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY MORNINGTON The final game of the fours championship conducted by the Otago Women s Bowling Association was played yesterday afternoon before a large gallery at Logan. Park, and resulted in a win for the Mornington rink against the Caversham rink by a big margin, the result being Mesdames Turner Bennet, Walker, V/lialo (Mornington) 27, Mesdames Hayward, Hamann, Brough, Stubbs (Caversham) 9. Both Mrs Bennet and Mrs Whale played clover bowls as second and skip respectively in the final against Mrs Stubbs. On the fourth end Mrs Whale was lying three down, and with a fast shot took out all three counters and secured a single, making the score 3-1 in her favour. Mrs Stubbs scored a 6 and a 1 on the next two ends and Mrs Whale replied with a 3,1, and 2on the next three, bringing the score to 9-5 on the ninth head. Mrs Stubbs scored a single on the tenth head, but did not score again till the eighteenth. In the meanwhile Mrs Whale’s team, by consistent play, had taken the score to 25-7. The game ended with the score 27-9 in Mornington’s favour. At the conclusion of the game Mrs F. J. Campbell, president of the association, congratulated the winners and presented the prizes. She also remarked that all those participating in the tournament had shown a good spirit in playing their games in the unpleasant weather that had prevailed. Those in charge of the running of the tournament had done fine work, and they were to he congratulated on the fact that there had boon no interruptions. Making a presentation to Me W. J. Gladding, the umpire, she expressed thanks on behalf of the. association.
