MANY of the older residents of South Dunedin will remember Ogg's Corner, with Mrs Gordon's grocery business on the left-hand side ... a small wooden building that was later taken over by Mr Pearce. H. Hancock decided to retire from business his stock and valued clientele were joined to the rapidly-expanding partnership. Exhibition year brought such greatly-increased business that the premises of M'Cubbins Mercery business were secured and completely remodelled to provide for a most modernly equipped Men's and Boys' Wear Department. During this time the grocery end of the business was expanding and great strides were made here. Country trade was growing and shoppers from all over Otago as well as the various parts of Dunedin necessitated still further space, and so was added the Showroom. The W. and R. policy of " Better Value—Better Service " bore such fruits that grocery branches were opened at Mornington, Mosgiel, and St. Kilda. In 1933 a disastrous fire swept the Drapery Department, and so the entire department was rebuilt and modernised, offering the public a most modern drapery shopping centre. To-day, this complete Department Store, built up In 29 years, offers to the public of Dunedin and Otago a unique shopping service. Practically everything in the way of food, clothing, china, and furnishings is obtainable under the one roof at competitive prices that mean Better Value every time. & RusselH The Busy Big Department Store, South Dunedin.
