SWING LOW
WJxen Paul Whiteman, who knows a thing or two about jazz, said recently that “ swing, as a fad, is definitely on the wane,” the words were balm to the scarred ears of those whose congenital or conditioned allergy to swing was nearing a psychosis. And when Rodgers and Hart carolled plaintively, ‘ I Like to Recognise the Tune,’ they found sympathetic response. For folks with advanced rausico-logical symptoms, the tune and Mr Whiteman’s words were accepted as battlecry and manifesto for another revival of anti-swing propaganda.—Gama Gilbert, in ‘ Tho New York Times.’
