MISSING WOMAN

COAT FOUND ON BEACH ("Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 14. A coat found on the beach at Princess Bay, near Houghton Bay, Wellington,. has been identified as belonging to Miss Sidney Susette Allen, aged 23 years, who has been missing from her home in Hawker street since Sunday afternoon. Underclothing which also belonged to Miss -Allen was found in the pockets of the coat. Miss Allen left her home at 3.15 p.m., saying that she was going for a swim at Oriental Bay. She was seen walking up Hawker street in the direction of Oriental Bay carrying a towel and bathing suit. No alarm was felt when she did not return early in the evening, as it was thought that she had gone to visit friends, but when she was still missing the next day her disappearance was reported to the police. Yesterday, after notice of her disappearance had been published in the Press, a woman reported to the police that she and a companion had noticed a frock and a pair of shoes at Princess Bay on Monday, but had not taken any particular notice of them. The police investigated, but could find no trace of the clothes. Later, however, the coat was found on the beach. It is thought possible that Miss Allen undressed some distance from the beach and then walked down to the water wearing her coat over her bathing costume.
