TENNIS UNION NOTES

[By SERVER.] General Meeting. A general meeting was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Monday, when Mr Hope presided over a fair attendance of delegates. It was decided to hold the annual Easter tournament with the following events: —Men’s open nad ladies’ open championships, Men’s B grade, ladies’ B grade, all events to be the best of three sets, the third set being to advantage. ' i Handicap events will be held as follows:—Men’s singles, men’s ■ doubles, ladies’ singles, ladies’ doubles, and mixed doubles, all to be the best of 17 games without advantage. Consolation events to be held on each ( day will be - a mixed doubles handicap, provided sufficient entries are received. Entries for all events will close on March 4 with entry fee. Each entrant will be charged 2s 6d for balls in the handicap events.. In the championship events each pair is' requested to supply one pair of firstgrade balls. It was decided at this meeting that each affiliated club be asked to donate a minimum sum of £1 to provide the basis of a fund to forward comforts to those members of union clubs who have enlisted for overseas service, the donation to be received by the union secretary by March 31. Mixed Doubles Tournament. Standring and Miss Sutherland beat Logan and Miss Rood. 9-2; Standring and Miss Sutherland beat Bowie and Miss Pemble, 9-2. Saturday’s Matches. —B Grade.— Green Island and Anderson's Bay (two of the loaders in this grade) defeated Tokotoru and North-east Valley Baptists. In the Green Island and Tokotoru match, which went to eight sets all, good tennis was witnessed. The Tokotoru ladies gave a good display, and were slightly better than their opponents, winning three of the singles and taking the two doubles. Outstanding players-were Lindsay, Rowland, Misses Rowland and Stewart. —C Grade. — Wylie’s Crossing had a close call against Dundas. The losers played well against this strong team, their ladies obtaining the four singles. The winners were superior with their men players. The two loading teams. Aotea and Fire Brigade, met on Saturday, the latter being successful by the narrow margin of two games. The result places Fire Brigade 2 points ahead of Aotea and Wylie’s Crossing.
