GORE RACES

WILD CAREER WINS PRESIDENT’S TOTALISATOR RETURNS DOWN The Gore Racing Club was again unlucky in regard to the weather for the concluding day of its summer meeting. After heavy rain-the previous night the rain cleared off in the morning, but a bitterly cold south-west wind and occasional showers made the conditions very unpleasant and seriously affected the attendance. The course was slower than, on Saturday and inclined to cut up. Wild Career scored a very ’easy win in the President’s Handicap, after allowing the lighter-weighted Sparkle and Boaform to run themselves out, and again proved the contention that he cannot handle yielding going is wrong. Islay Downs won the concluding event, and was the only Wingatui horse to score a win at the fixture. The meeting was excellentlv handled, and the totalisator closed s'harply on the scheduled time for the last race. Mr Gieseler was more successful with the barrier than on the opening day. The totalisator handled £IO,BOI, compared with £17,426 10s on the second day last year (Saturday), making £23,589 for the meeting, a decrease of £4.415 10s.

NOTES ON THE FIXTURE • [By St. Claxb.] Milford was slow to get away in the Mataura High-weight Handicap, and Merry Simon led Royal Style and Silkwood out of the straight. As they raced along the back Merry Simon was two lengths in front of Royal Style, and Milford ran up into third place. Royal Style ran up to Merry Simon at the far turn, and racing across the top they drew out live lengths clear Irom Milford. Royal Style and Merry Simon were together turning into the straight, but over the last half furlong the latter held the advantage and won by a length. Verdure was seven lengths away third, then Silkwood and Remembo.

From a good start for the Apprentices’ Handicap Prince lluenalf was first to show and Mosgiel last out, but before half a furlong had been covered Pink Bond ran to the front and led Southern Sail, Blissful Lady, and New Note. At the far turn Blissful Lady joined Pink Bond, and they were followed across the top and into the straight by New Note and Southern Sail. Mosgiel made a forward move here, but got carried out wide. Blissful Lady easily held her own in tlie run home to beat Mosgiel by a length and a-quarter. Pink Bond was only a neck away third, followed by New Nolo and Southern Sail.

. Brown Cloud began the best of the limit horses in the Telegraph Harness Trot and led through the straight from Prince Echo, Aides, T’apid Course, Sea. Peter, and Lorono Val, As they raced to the back Brown Cloud continued to show the way, and was closely attended bv Sea Peter, Prince Echo, Lorene Val. unci Aidus.
