[From Our Correspondent] BOWLING. Tho Southland returned soldiers have accepted March 2 as the date for a match with South Otago returned sol-’ diers at Baldutha. Soldier members of South Otago clubs willing to take part in this match are asked to get into touch with Mr R. H. Paice, Baldutha, as early as possible. The Southland' team' will travel by train. On March 30 a pairs tournament, open only to South Otago players, will be held,“and the South Otago champion of champion singles will be held at Baclutha the same day. SWIMMING. The “Learn to Swim” campaign under the auspices of the Baldutha Swimming Club commenced yesterday, when the pupils from Beiihar School wore put through their paces. The ■campaign will last for a fortnight, members of the local dub carrying out tho instruction. The surf and life-saving section of the dub visit Kaka Point every Sun-, day and patrol the beach, ’ while the members also indulge in surf work. The beltmau’s chammonship. for the cup presented by the Kaka Point Welfare Society is to be held on February 25, when a sealed handicap competition will be run in conjunction with the championship event. M. Wyber is the present holder of the cup. The Baldutha, Club is sending in a strong team to' take part in the competitions to be held in Dunedin on February 22. Alterations are,at present being carried out at the Balolutba baths, which when finished will enable the baths to be filled direct from the pumping station, instead of, as at present, from _the water tower. This will save considerable time, and be of great benefit. BALCLUTHA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. The sixty-fourth annual meeting of the above society was held last night, Mr A, L Shepard presiding over a good attendance. . The annual report showed that a fairly successful year had been experienced, both tho autumn and spring shows drawing good exhibition and attendances. —The report was adopted and votes - of thanks accorded all who assisted. ’ The election , 0f... office-bearers resulted:—President, Mr G. Kaftangata, played at Kaitangata, resulted in a win for the home side by 78 runs. Milton batted first and made 58, Heads being top scorer with 24. including three 6’s. Donoghue (13) was the only other batsman to reach double figures. Bowling for Kaitangata. W. Garvin took five witkets for 17 runs,. Parker two for 23, Smith two for 11. Kaitangata replied with, 136.
