SPORTS MEETING

CIVIL SERVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS NEW HAMMER-THROWING RECORD. The Civil Service Amateur Athletic Club championships were concluded last evening under very adverse weather conditions, a high wind and soft track preventing fast times. The best events of the night were the two-mile junior championship and the hammer throw. The former was a battle of tactics between H. Nelson and M. Collins, and an excellent race was won by Nelson. J. Anderson established a new club record in the hammer throw of 113 ft Sin. Results:— Two Miles Junior Championship.—H. Nelson 1, M. Collins 2. Time, llmin 22sec. This was the race of the night, Nelson and Collins leading alternately throughout. At the boll Nelson led by a yard and forced the pace throughout the final lap. Entering the straight Collins dashed up alongside Nelson, and a great tussle ensued. With 30yds to go Nelson forged ahead and gained his second title by 4yds. Two Miles Senior Championship.—A. R. Geddes 1, N. J. Coutts 2, K. Baird 3. Time, llmin 30 2-ssec. Five starters. Geddes sprinted Coutts over the last 220yds; Baird 20yds back third. 220 Yards Hurdles Championship.— J. L. W. Gerken 1, A. R. Geddes 2, N. J. Coutts 3. Time, 32 l-ssec. Gerken led all the way and won easily by 20yds, Geddes beating Coutts on the tape for second place. 440 Yards Junior Championship.—L J. Dickel 1. C. Walker 2, M. Collins 3. Time, 58 3-ssec. Another good race, Walker and Dickel fighting out a good finish, Dickel winning by 2yds. 440 Yards Senior Championship.—H. J. Tyrie 1, J. L. W. Gerken 2, A. R. Geddes 3. Five starters. Time, 54 4-5 sec. Tyrie led out smartly and won by Byds, third man syds back. High Jump.—A. M'Cartnev (sft Tin) 1, J. L. W. Gerken (oft) 2, S. A. Ross and J. Anderson (equal) 3. Hammer Throw.—J. Anderson (113 ft Sin) I, A. M'Cartney (60ft 4Jin) 2, J. L. AV. Gerken (59ft - 2in) 3. Anderson established a new club record. Hooper Vase (Junior Aggregate).— L.
