NO SIGN OF RESUMPTION MEN RECEIVING UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT [Per United Press Association.] : GREYMOUTH, February, 8. There is still no'indication of a resumption of work at the two idle Grey Valley mines, Dobson'and Wallsend. Arrangements have been made for the payment of the social security unemployment benefit to the idle miners. On Wednesday afternoon six, officers from the Social Security Department visited Wallsend, and by arrangement with the, miners’, unions, the men were registered for the benefit under the Social Security Act, and! also under the State Placement Service. Under the unemployment benefit, single men will receive £1 a week, and married men an additional los for their wives and 5s for each child. It is understood that the first payments of the benefit will be made at the end of this week or the beginning of next. As the men are also being registered as unemployed under the State Placement Service, they will be available for public works jobs as these become vacant. Endeavours are being made to place available single men at Bruce Bay, and married men on the Buffer Gorge railway construction works.
