BUS SERVICE
LIBERTON AND DALMORE
HEED FOR OVERHAUL STRESSED
Transport in the north end hill suburbs is something of a problem, and the bus services run by the City Corporation have done little to alleviate the position, according to statements made by a number of speakers at the formation meeting of the Dalmore and Liborton Improvement Association last night. Mrs G. Brookes opened the discussion, declaring that she was sure residents would only have to ask to obtain a service that would -be of convenience to them. .At least there should be a bus each night and one on Sundays. A complaint that could justifiably be made, she continued, was ,that the bus left town too early on Saturday nights. Fifteen passengers had been left behind last Saturday, 12 the week before, and 14 the week before that. An alteration could be made if demands were put in the right way. Another innovation that would be of benefit both to residents and the corporation would be a through service to Frederick street or the Exchange. More people would use the bus and not walk down the hill if they did not have to change at the bottom. Other speakers made suggestions regarding a circular route at Liberton, instead of tjie original one, still used, which catered only to the first residents in that district. Concession tickets also formed a matter for reform. It was pointed out that concession tickets could not be used on the hill, but it was possible to use them on the same bus when it was travelling along George street. A large number of complaints were made regarding buses which left the terminus too soon, and others which took the wrong route. One had travelled along King street and straight up Pino Hill road, leaving prospective passengers standing at the bridge at Woodhaugh. Mrs Brookes pointed out that the drivers could hardly be blamed. They were put to much inconvenience and worked on a time limit that was too narrow. , The matter was left in the hands of the executive to deal with, a report to be brought down at the next meeting.
