TOWN HALL COMPETITIONS.

TO THE EDITOH. gi r) —Coming from the North Island, I was interested in these competitions at the Town Hall, and watched the junior competition, which was held in December. I felt disappointed with the finals, although the standard of dancing was very high; but one couple in the last four competitors stumbled and could not keep in time with the music, and one couple who were not in the last four gave an outstanding performance, especially in the jazz waltz, and I would have placed them first. I have judged many competitions. I would like to congratulate that couple and also the winning couple. 1 watched the Otago championship and was very pleased with the decision. 1 would also like to

congratulate tlie winners. I hare never seen a higher standard of dancing. Judge of my surprise, after returning from the North Island, to hear that a couple who had not won the Otago championship were the winners of the South Island championship. Surely this needs a little explanation, as 1 do not remember hearing the judge revoke his decision. I am sorry I was not present at the final demonstration, as 1 suppose I would have known the reason, but the few I know are not aware of the reason of this. When one pays his money he does not expect to see another couple dancing in place of the one he paid to see without an explanation.—l am, etc., * Noutii Islander. February 7. [The couple who won the Otago championship did not participate in the Mouth Island championship.—Ed. K.S.]
