MAYFAIR

The programme to finish to-night at the Mayfair has proved very popular. It is headed by Bing Crosby in ‘ Sing, You Sinners,’ and the other ■ picture is ‘ Ex-Champ,’ starring Tom Brown and Victor M'Laglen, In ‘ Sing, You Sinners,’ the audience is introduced to a family in. which there are two grown-up sons—Crosby and Fred Mac Murray. One is a hard-working young man and steadily forges on towards ultimate success, while the other is apparently a failure. ELEANOR POWELL MUSICAL. Dancing, singing, romance, and laughs are represented by the topnotchers in their respective fields in the star-packed cast of the new M.G.M. musical. ‘ Honolulu,’ which is to open to-morrow at the Mayfair. Eleanor Powell handles the dancing end of the lavish new picture, with the other headliners composed of Robert Young and - the' inimitable comedy • team of Burns and Allen. Prominent supporting parts are filled by Rita Johnson, Clarence Kolb, Jo Ann Sayers, Ann Morris, Willie Fung, Cliff Clark, Edward Gargan, Eddie Anderson, Sig Rumann, Ruth Hussey, Kealoha Holt, and Edgar Dearing. Edward Buzzell, former Broadway musical comedy star, ivas the director. Jack Cummings, who produced ‘ Born to Dance ’ and ‘ Broadway Melodv of 1938,’ produced the new musical. Miss Powell introduces fhreo new dances—‘Hymn to the Sun,’ a tap hula, based on the traditional Hawaiian dance; an imitation of Bill Robinson’s entertaining stair dance; and a tap dance done with a skipping rope. ‘ You Can’t Cheat an Honest Man,’ featuring Edgar Bergen and Charlie M'Carthy, will support.
