MftUNT MORGAN PLANT IMPORTANT EXTENSIONS PLANNED Considerable interest attaches to the notable plant extensions which have been put into operation by Mount Morgan Limited, states the January issue of the ' Queensland Government Mining Journal.' The new treatment methods which have been adopted to mine the ore reserves profitably are the outcome of careful preparatory work, and the results have already proved eminently satisfactory. Sulphide mill plant extensions, comprising a sft 6in Symons cotie crusher, complete - with belt conveyors, screens, etc.; a 12,000-ton fine ore storage; two standard sft 6in by lift ball mills with classifiers; and a 1-t-celJ mineral separation flotation machine have been completed and put into operation. The result has been an increase in mill through put to 10,000 tons a week. The desliming circuit and retreatmeut of sulphide tailings by direct cyanidation at the oxide mill was in fjill operatiou in May last with improved total gold recoveries. A 100 ft thickener is under construction to assist the settlement of the slimes. This thickener is of reinforced concrete with all steel work rubber-covered to prevent corrosion by other solutions. " These plant extensions are designed with the object of dispensing with the practice of shipping concentrates overseas for treatment." the journal adds. " This in itself will be a boon to the district, a* it will mean a bit: saving in cost. The future of the rninp, with its huge ore reserves, is bright." CALLS GN GOLD SHARES NEW AUSTRALIAN CONTROL. The approval of the Australian Common wealth Treasury, may have to be obtained in the future by gold mining companies specified by the Federal Government/before they make calls of capital. Recently all gold mining companies were exempted from the obligation under the investment control regulations to obtain permission to make calls, but power was taken on January 25 to enable this general exemption to be withdrawn from specified companies.
