Y.W.C.A. NOTES

(Contributed.) On Tuesday, December 5, at 7.45 p.m., the Girl Citizens and Tiki Club combined to entertain about 25 crippled girls at a Christmas party. Including the guests there were about 70 people present. The Tiki Club presented a niggei minstrel scene with choruses and tap dancing. A Christinas tableau was staged by the Girl Citizens. Games were played and carols were sung. Father Christmas presented all with gifts from a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Supper was served, and all enjoyed a very happy evening. On the same date the 21 students in the hostel held a farewell party. Only five of them will return to the hostel next year, but there will be many new girls to take the place of those who have finished their training. Games, competitions, a treasure bun*:, and supper completed the programme. The hostel Christmas tea was held on Thursday, December 7, so as to include tho students before their departure. Tea was followed by carol singing and distribution of gifts from a decorated Christmas tree. The 3Y9 Club held a mother and daughter banquet on Monday, December 11, at 8 p.m., in the cafeteria. The banquet took the form of a. mock wedding breakfast. Various items were given by the club girls—piano solos, violin solos, and carol singing. Tho members of the Tiki Club organised a cinema party ou Monday, December 11, as its final meeting for this season. The Girl Citizens will be holding " drop-in ” nights during the holiday season,, at which impromptu programmes will be arranged. The Y.W.C.A. lounge will bo closed from Christmas Day till January 3, Any urgent inquiries can be made at the hostel,.. .The, cafeteria will be closed from Christmas Day till January 8. The holiday camp, which will bo held at Portobello from December 27 to .January 6, is chiefly for girls between 14 and-18 years of age, and there are still a few vacancies. Miss Lovelj-Smith will be in charge. Arrangements are being made to secure the use of a tennis court for the remainder of tho season. Those wishing to join the club should apply to Mrs M'Aughtrie. A party of 22 girls from the Wellington Association are planning a bus tour to Mount Cook, Queenstown, Eglinton Valley during the Christmas holidays. They will spend two nights in Dunedin on their way back.to Wellington. •On Saturday last a Y.W.C.A. team played Grange I. The latter team had first innings and declared at 169 runs for eight wickets. Y.W.C.A. obtained 127 runs for nine wickets. This month’s ‘ New Zealand Girl ’ publishes a letter from Miss Una M. Saunders, national vice-president in England, to all Y.W.C.A. friends in other countries. Tho subject of this letter is the Y.W.C.A. in Great Britain in time of war. The last' paragraph tells of a visit from the Queen. “On Monday, September 11, we had the joy of a surprise visit from H.M. the Queen, who spent one and a-quarter hours visiting all parts of the building talking to Mrs Grenfell, Miss Curweh, and Miss Moore about our war work and speaking to many of us en route.”
