HOSPITAL BED SOCKS
A RECIPE Five-ply wool, two Xo. 5 needles. Cast on "54 stitches; always slip the first stitch in every row. Knit in ribs of 3 plain, 3 purl, for 9 rows; tenth row, knit plain all along. Repeat this till you have seven groups of 10 rows each, or long enough for the leg. Then knit 30, turn, purl 6; turn, knit 1. turn, purl 8: turn, knit 9, turn, purl 10: turn, knit 11, turn, purl 12; turn, knit 13, turn, purl 14; turn, knit 15, turn, purl 16; turn, knit 17, turn, purl 18; turn, knit 19, turn, purl 20. Turn and knit all along the "needle again, and finish the sock in ..lain knitting. When you have done 9in from tho back of the heel, begin to decrease thus Slip 1, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit to the end. Knit Wo rows plain, and then decrease every row in the same way to the end. Turn the point up about an inch and sew up the front seam for about 4in. The rest of the way the sock fastens With tapes sewn ort at intervals of about 4in. A tape should be stitched along the edges : to prevent them stretching.
