ROLLING STOCK SHORTAGE
GERMANY FACING PROBLEM TRADE WITH RUMANIA HINDERED NEW YORK, December 7. The Bucharest representative of the ‘ New York Times ’ says that because of a shortage of railway cars Germany cannot fully take advantage of the recent Rumanian, Russian, and German agreement for the opening of a railway between Rumania and Germany through Russia. , Instead of five there are only three trains a day, each with 45 instead of 60 cars. Germany bought 1,000 carloads of apples in June, and only one-third has been exported, most of them being rotten. British and German competition to hire Danube barges continues, and neither has obtained a majority.
NO SHORT WAR GERMANY MUST BE BROUGHT TO HER KNEES PARIS, December 6. The chief censor, Vice-Admiral Usborne, said 1 : "I am not one who believes that the war will be short. I have no faith in disintegration of Germany from inside. We shall win only after we have brought Germany to her knees. The best way to do this is by the blockade and possible extensive air operations.”
