“NO IMMEDIATE HURRY" HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION DECISION That it was felt, os a matter of principle, the men would be fully equipped by the Government, and that there was no immediate hurry to begin sewing and knitting until the proper machinery for organising, distributing, and! supervising had been set up, was the decision reached at a meeting yesterday afternoon of members of , the Otago Home Economics Association. Mrs G. Glue, president of the association, was in the chair. She is acting as a representative on the Mayoress’s District Patriotic Committee. The meeting was called Tor the purpose of ascertaining how many members would be willing to offer their services in the making of 2,050 pairs of socks and pyjamas, and the same number of handkerchiefs,' which were all to be ready before February.. No wool or patterns, which were being bought from the Government by the Patriotic Society for the purpose, were as yet available. Mrs Glue said, but another meeting would be called as soon as the materials had come to hand. It was also decided to accept the offer of Professor A. G. Strong, dean of the Home Science School, of the use of the sewing machines at the school.. At a meeting held in October some 300 members had expressed the desire to assist practically with war work when material was available. In the meantime a few have offered to knit socks during the holidays.
