[Feok Ouk Cokrespondbnt] BOWLING. On Wednesday evening a rink from Eaitangata (lE. Mackie, C. Pennell, J. Haig, St, Prescott) visited Milton to play the holders (J. T, Wilson, G. Clark, J. Onff, J. Campbell) for the Gold Memorial: Cup. Although the challengers opened the scoring and were leading with six heads played the holders went to the front on the seventh and kept there till the finish, finally winning by 22 points to 16. The' next challenge is from a Balclutha rink. - TOKO. D.H. SCHOOL. At this week’s meeting of the Toko. D.H.S. Committee the acting head master (Mr W. George) reported that thei roll number in the secondary department was 20, and the average attendance 18.5. Thq roll number in the primary department was 266, with an average attendance of 243.4. Miss Rpbertson had succeeded Miss Riddellj and Mr Urquhart was relieving during the absence of the head master. Mr A. J, Shaw wrote resigning as assistant, haying been transferred to Ravensbourne.—-The resignation was accepted with regret. . Mr Jas, Moir, an ex-pupil, donated a set. of ‘ Encyclopaedia Bntannica ’ to the school. The chairman (Dr Edgar) said it would, be necessary to provide a cupboard to house the books.—Donor to be thanked. Mr J. M‘lntyre, head master, wrote thanking the committee for expression of sympathy in his illness, and said he hoped to resume duty before the school closed for the holidays. The Chairman, referring to the aecondary department, said it was very gratifying to know that it had met with a good reception, so much so that they were now in the position of having two permanent teachers on the secondary staff. Further replies were yet to come in, and prospects were that the department would show a ‘big increase in numbers next year. In fact, the required number of 31 was already greatly exceeded. It was agreed to ask Mr Hoy, M.P.. to assist at the breajt-up ceremony of the school. The Chairman extended seasonal greetings to staff and committee members, Messrs George and Mitchell teciprocating. BRUCE BUILDING SOCIETY. At the annual meeting of the above Mr 6, H. Thomson presided over an attendance of 62 shareholders. The report and balance sheet were adopted, the chairman making an appeal for more shareholders. Mr Thomson was re-elected president. Mr Jas. Gray was re-elected vice-president i Mr E. ’ Ransom was reappointed shareholdrs’ auditor; and Messrs M. Paul and J. A. Stewart were re-elected to the committee. TRANSPORT SERVICES. Prom Monday the five transport and coal businesses in Milton and district will operate under the style “ Milton Transport Ltd.,” the proprietors of the services having agreed to amalgamate, following a suggestion from the transport authorities that the services be co-ordinated and so save overlapping.

Mr J. Pringle, formerly of Bruce Carrying Co., will be secretary-man-ager of the new firm. MILTON SHOW. Entries for Toko. Show to-morrow total 342 in the stock classes, this number being slightly less than last year,

but it is expected that with the butter and baking entries (which close on the morning of the show) last year’s total will be exceeded. All classes of stock are well represented, draught and light horses being particularly strong. Competitions have also drawn excellent , entriies.
