[Frosi Our Correspondent] ROXBURGH BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Roxburgh Borough Council was presided over by the mayor (Mr E. A. Laloli). The Mayor reported that he bad attended a meeting in Dunedin to form the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council. Being a member of the Centennial Council, he automatically became a member of this council. There will be the National Patriotic Fund and 11 provincial funds, one for each province. The fund will be worked through the machinery of the Centennial organisation now in existence. The Otago Provincial Patriotic Fund was subsequently launched on October 31 for Dunedin, and it now remains for the Central Otago Centennial Zone Committee to meet in order to form local committees for various districts. All money collected will be forwarded to the provincial fund, and any money required to be spent for local patriotic purposes will have to be disbursed from the same source. The provincial fund is independent of the national fund, and is solely controlled by the Provincial Council, but payments will be required to be made from this fund to the national fund for certain purposes. Accounts totalling £1.365 5s 2d were passed for payment, the largest amounts being sewerage advances accounts. £1,179 13s 2d. CRICKET. The match between Lawrence and Milton B on Saturday in the South Otago _ Association’s "competition resulted in a draw. Batting first, Lawrence made 146 (J. Cavanagh 47, J. Stuart 32, J. Templer 10, R. Batchelor 15 ? W. Winchester 15). Bowling for Milton B, Wybrow took two for 16, Hawke two for 38, Woods two for 13, Heads one for 16, France one for .3. On the cal! of time Milton B in their innings had lost nine wickets for 41 runs (Olver 10, Smith 11). Bowling for Lawrence, J. Cavanagh took three for 23, and J. Stuart, who bowled exceptionally well, returned the fine average of six for 13, TUAPEKA COUNTY COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Tuapeka County Council was held at Lawrence on Friday, Mr E. H. Murney (in the chair). The district agent, Social Security Department, wrote extending a wbrks authority in respect of 14 men on a 100 per cent, wages subsidy. The total commitment for the work was now £946.—Received. The district agent, Social Security Department, wrote that the Department of Labour was prepared to extend the authority on a wages subsidy basis of £4 a man-week for six men for 10 weeks on stated road improvements, and for four men for six weeks on corner improvements. He also advised that the reduced subsidy of £4 operated as from November 6.—The offer was accepted. The following tenders for contracts were accepted: Breakneck road, Soper, Browne Bros., and Geeves. M’Coskery’a road, Soper, Browne, Bros, and Geeves. Tinlaburn road, H. W. Todd. Tapanui-Glenkenick highway, E. C Sim.

Regarding the work of constructing a channel for Slaughterhouse Creek, -the Engineer explained the difficulties and outlined the terms on which Finlayson Bros, were prepared to undertake the work.—lt was decided to go on with the work under the engineer’s supervision.

The treasurer (Mr R. F. Batchelor) reported that receipts for the month totalled £764 5s 10a And expenditure amounted to £1,325 15s 3d. There was a credit balance at the bank of £1,402 8s 9d. Reference to Cr Bennetts’s notable record of 40 years’ service as a member of the council was made by the chairman (Mr E. H. Murney), who remarked that the previous day had been the actual anniversary of Cr BenUetts’s election. He tendered the council’s congratulations to Cr Bennetts, and added that the length of the term spoke highly of the esteem in which Cr Bennetts was held in his district.—ln reply, Cr Bennetts recalled < some of the changes in the county since he travelled to attend his first meeting in one of Messrs Craig and Co.’s coaches. He also paid a tribute to the fine body of men who bad been associated with him on the council during his term as councillor.
