MOTOR CAR ACCIDENTS

TOO IN CITY YESTERDAY VERY SLIGHT PERSONAL INJURIES Two motor car accidents in which the occupants received only slight injuries occurred during yesterday. The first happened early in the morning, when a five-scater car, driven south along Clyde street by Cyrus .John Smith, aged 22, plunged over the bank of the Leith, coming to rest on the bed of the stream. The driver, a visitor from Milton, apparently did not realise that at this point the Leith was crossed only by a narrow footbridge. Driving straight on, ho went over the bank, dropping about 10ft into the Leith and badly smashing the car. There were two passengers _ in the car, a young woman and a girl. All three received injuries and wore given treatment at the Dunedin Hospital. Two then returned home, but Thelma Tyler, living at Hope street, was admitted suffering from a broken collarbone. The second accident occurred at the corner of Cumberland and Lower High streets in the afternoon, a taxi and a motor truck colliding. Seven persons were involved. Driven by Mr G. S. Hislop, the taxi was travelling along High street towards the railway station when it collided with a truck driven by Mr E. A. Bennett proceeding south along Cumberland street. The collision occurred at the intersection, the taxi being turned ■ round so that both vehicles faced the Early Settlers’ Hall. The truck was fairly extensively damaged, the taxi only slightly. Although the truck and taxi carried seven persons, the extent of personal injury was slight. Mrs W. Bagiev, residing at 91 London street, n passenger in the taxi, was admitted to the Hospital with facial abrasions and concussion Her young son received treatment for a cut on the forehead caused by flying glass. A girl on the truck received a cut on the leg, but that was the extent of injury.
