N.Z.DOAD CYCLING TITLE <J. HANSON'S SUCCESS IK CLOSE FINISH [Pee United Peess Association,] WELLINGTON, November 13. A stron" north-westerly wind made the going nard for the 12 entrants in th» New Zealand 100 kilometre amateur road cycling championship race, the main event of the amateur road cycling season. It was hard fought all the way. The Wellington riders, who had an advantage of knowing the course from Petone along the Western Hutt road over the (Eimntakas to the turning point not far from Featherston and
back by the same route, were superior on the hill bends. On the return journey there was a general weeding out, which left C. Hanson (Otago). K. Dutton (Wellington), and J. W. Partridge (Auckland) in the lead. These three finished at a very fast clip, and 200yds from home it was any man’s race. It looked as if Dutton would win in the final sprint, but as he was handicapped by an almost flat tyre he was unable to hold off Hanson, who came through to beat him by l-ssec. Results: — C.
