OPPOSITION ENDORSEMENT
BETTER RELATIONS WITH SOVIET URGED LONDON, October 26. (Received October 27, at 1 p.ra.) In the House of Commons, Mr Attlee endorsed Mr Chamberlain’s tributes to the homo defences, and expressed pleasure at the results of the campaign against U-boats. Referring to von Ribbentrop, he declared: “ It does not seem worthwhile to follow up statements of that kind. Threats will not deter us from our duty. Ho Urged the Government not to allow relations with Russia to stagnate in their present unsatisfactory, and even dangerous, position. He added that it would he a grave dereliction of duty if the Governmeiht left the Russian field open for • the Germans. They alipuld, by vigorous initiative in the commercial and diplomatic fields, convince the Soviet Government that the interests of mankind would best be* served by British-Frenoh-Russian understanding and collaboration.
