Stated to have printed two coupons resembling the official petrol coupons and to have used them to obtain petrol, Bernard Ellis Williams (25), a compositor, pleaded guilty and was fined £2 on each of two charges. The charge of forging a coupon was dismissed, the police offering no evidence. The magistrate (Mr Stout) issued a warning that now the matter had been ventilated, others appearing before him need not expect such lenient treatment. As he was not the registered owner ho was unable to get the coupons. He had printed only two, and then realised his foolishness and had destroyed tho typo and tho crown.
