TRAM FARES INCREASED
TO COVER HIGHER WAGE COSTS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 26. The Wellington City Council, at a special meeting to-day, decided, on the 'recommendation of the Tramways, Electricity, and 1 Street Lighting Committee, to make an increase in the tramway fares to bring in an extra £B,OOO yearly, and to increase the bus fares to realise an additional £I,OOO yearly, thus making up the £9,000 yearly which it has been agreed to pay the council's tramways and bus employees. The increase in tram fares consists of confining the existing 2s 6d concession ticket to throe sections and the introduction of a new 3s eight-trip ticket for four and five sections. The resolution to increase the fares will be forwarded by the city solicitor to the Price Fixing Tribunal for approval.
