DRAGGED UNDER TRAIN. Smith, who wa* an acting lance-corporal in the Canterbury Cavalrv, was on his way to • camp at Cave. With a companion, h* ran down Strathallan street’ as tb* train pulled over the crossing at th* foot of the street, and chased the train,Smith was a married man, aged about 35. It is understood that he leave* four children. He bad enlisted in th* special force on Wednesday. MALIGNANT MALARIA. An inquest was held at Wellington into the death of a seaman on a tanker which put into Wellington on Monday, and a verdict was returned that th* deceased, Erland Karlsen, aged 24, died from malignant malaria. H. Larsen,another seaman from the same vessel* is stated to be improving. COLLISION AT KENSINGTON. A passenger car collided with a lorr# near the Kensington Drill Hall lat* yesterday afternoon, and as a result Margaret Engstrom. an elderly married woman who resides at Maunga* tua, was admitted to hospital at * o’clock. She was suffering from sever# scalp wounds. CHOPPING ACCIDENT, As a result of severing _ his thumS while chopping wood at his home at Maungatua, George _ Hodgkins, aa elderly man, was admitted to hospital at 7 o’clock last night. FRACTURED FEMUR. A fall at his home at 4 Clark street resulted in a fractured right femur for Herbert William Ingram, a single man, 57 years of age. He was admitted t# hospital at 8.40 p.m. yesterday.
