ALIEN NEWSPAPERS IN AUSTRALIA
Fears of dangerous propaganda through 36 foreign language newspapers published in Australia, expressed by a Returned Soldiers’ League conference, drew a reassuring statement from the Commonwealth Government that it had complete control and could take prompt and effective action. The papers, it said, wore published under permits which could be. summarily withdrawn, regular reports on published matter were made, regulations gave power of suppression, and plans for stricter control were in the Commonwealth War Book. Colonies of aliens scattered about Australia are potential problems ; hence the anxiety of the soldiers.
