STILL OUT OF ACTION
NEW ZEALAND'S " POCKET BATTLESHIP " SADLER DOGGED BY INJURY [By Hooker.] Encountered by members of the Otago Rugby team during their stay in Wellington was “Joey” Sadler (“the pocket battleship”), half-back in the 1935 All Blacks on their tour of Great Britain and in the 1936 New Zealand team against Australia. Sadler is one of the greatest enthusiasts in the game, and although the leg injury which has caused him to undergo several operations halted the career of one of New Zealand's most brilliant post-war half-backs, he has lost none of his keenness for the game. Sadler told the writer that he found it hard to have to take his football from the bank, and, even though he has not yet completely recovered from the injury, he has not altogether bowed to the inevitable that he should put his football togs away for good. Sadler may even still have to submit to another operation, which he is hopeful will be the last, but with it all he remains the same cheerful little fellow who won such acclaim among his fellow footballers and public alike. The wish of Rugby enthusiasts from one end of New Zealand to the other will be that this fine player will soon be completely restored to health.
