NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS MRS HAWKSWORTH BEATEN [Per United Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, August 25. Keen games and three-set matches made last night’s programme at the New Zealand badminton championships unusually long. Mrs Hawksworth, who with her husband scored easily in the mixed doubles, was eliminated from the singles by Miss Pernio after she had won the first set easily. MEN’S DOUBLES. —First Round.— Sheerin and Paton boat Handley and Therkelson, 15-5, 15-6. —Second Round.— Hawksworth and Pearce boat Eade and Amitage, 15-6, 15-3. Anderson and Vestey heat Roberts and Moginie, 15-12, 15-12. Sheerin and Payton beat Lewis and Dallimore, 17-15, 15-7. WOMEN’S SINGLES. —Second Round.— Miss Edmondson beat Miss Berry, 11-8, 11-3. Miss Kerr beat Miss M'Oarthy, 11-4, 11-5. Miss Fernie heat Mrs Hawksworth, 3-11, 11-5, 11-5. Miss Payton heat Miss Grylls, 11-4, 11-2.
