NEW ZEALAND TITLES TOURNAMENT OPENED i [Pek United Puess Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, August 23. Championhsip matches in the New Zealand badminton tournament were begun at New Plymouth to-night. There arc 20 competitors in the men’s singles and 16 in the women’s singles. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Saturday. Results:— MEN’S SINGLES. Anderson, 15-5, 15-11. SECOND ROUND. Vesty beat Dallimore, 12-15, 15-11, 15-12. R. H. Lewis beat Pearce, 15-3, 15-11. Wilson beat Roberts, 5-15, 15-9, 15-10. Sheerin beat J. D. Lewis, 15-12, 11-15, 15-4. WOMEN’S SINGLES. FIRST ROUND. Miss M’Cartby beat Miss Lassen, 11-7, 11-1. Miss Edmondson boat Miss Jenkins, 11-0. 11-3. Miss Kerr beat Miss O’Sullivan, 11-5, 11-5. Miss Berry beat Miss Hamsav, 11-7, 11Miss Payton beat Miss Wade, 11-5, 5-11, 11-G. Mrs Hawksworth beat Mrs Yendall, 11-6, 6-11, 11-0. Miss Ferine beat Miss Greaves, 5-11, 12- 11-1, WOMEN’S DOUBLES.
