Professor F. G. Soper left this morn-* ing for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Council of th§ Institute of Chemists. Major Bovan Dodds left by train to- ■ day to attend a military camp at Burnham. Mr J. Duncan, well known for many years as the driver of city trams, was a passenger by to-day’s express for Wellington, where he will take up his residence. Sir Cecil Leys, chairman of directors of New Zealand Newspapers Ltd., has returned to Auckland fitter a trip to Vancouver. . The executive of the Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand met yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Captain H. A. Dillner, superintendent of mercantile marine, who has been transferred to Auckland. He has been a member of the society for about eight years. The chairman, Mr E. C. Htyzlett, referred to the excellent manner in which he had always carried out his work, and said that Captain Dillner would now be looking after the interests of the society in Auckland.. He wished him every success, and at the same time welcomed his successor, Captain Davis. The members of the School Committee and their wives and the teaching staff assembled at the Maori Hill School to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs . Wilson* Mr Wilson has been promoted to the head mastership of the Waimata School. Mr Duncan, chairman of the School Committee, referred to Mr Wilson’s success as a teacher and to his popularity among children and parents* Other members of the committee and teachers also spoke, expressing regret at Mr Wilson’s departure, and wishing him success in his new position. Mr and Mrs Wilson were the recipients of a set of crystal. During the evening musical items were given hy Miss Hare, Mrs Jewiss, and Mr M'Pherson. On the last school day of the term the pupils bade farewell to Mr Wilson and presented him with a fire screen and log box. A Press Association message from Parliament Buildings states that the Controller and Auditor-General (Mr J. F. Fowler) will retire at the end) of the month, having completed forty-four years’ service.
