OBITUARY

MRS JOHN CLARK A link with. the . early days of the Waitati district was severed- by the death at Waitati on'August; 16 of Mrt John 11. Clark. Mrs Clark was in her eightieth year, and arrived at Port Chalmers by the ship Henrietta in 1860, accompanied by her, parents and other members of her family. They, settled at Mount Cargill, and at first Mrs. Clark walked' to the North-east Valley School, but later attended the Waitati School, walking the whole way both night and morning. She married Mr John Clark, of ..Waitati, in 1876, her husband having arrived by the Three Bells in 1858, This was the first marriage in the district, and the Rev, A. Finlayson was the officiating minister. The whole of Mrs Clark’s married life wag , spent on the place on which she and her husbf.no settled 63 years ago. , Her kindly disposition and readiness to help by word or deed anyone less fortunate than herself endeared her to all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband 16 years ago. and she is survived by a son and four daughters.
