AUSTRALIANS EASIER

B.H.P.S ON OFFER AT £3/8/6 BARE SALES LIST RECORDED The hesitance in Australian scrip noted on the Dunedin Exchange was emphasised this morning by restricted losses. Buyers lowered limits and withdrew for several prominent issues, while vendors displayed their willingness to cut rates slightly to meet the market. The weakness is due to the depressing effect in Australia of the news of the non-aggression pact between Germany and Russia. Dominion industrials were well supported, but a bare sales list was recorded. Broken Hill Proprietaries lost appreciable ground to holders £3 6s fid, at which valuation buyers were not to be drawn. Coles found a widte market between £3 16s-£3 19s, while Sydney Woolworths closed with buyers willing to pay £1 4s 9d, 9d below sellers’ limits. Metals were lifeless, with most sellers holding late rates. Morgans were the only shares, to attract buyers, who fixed 9s 6d limits. New Zealand banks and insurances closed steady, but interest in loan and agency scrip fell off. Front-rank industrials were again well supported, Fertilisers, Drugs, Milburn Limes, and Paper Mills closing with strong buyers. New Zealand Breweries came on offer at £1 17s, but buyers were not interested. SALES REPORTED. —Late Yesterday.— 3J per cent. Stock, 1939-43, £99 12s fid. Bank of New Zealand, £2.
