COMMERCIAL TEACHERS
DOMINION CONFERENCE OPENS The delegates attending the Commercial Teachers’ Conference sponsored by the New Zealand Technical School Teachers’ Association were welcomed to the city at a social function in the Tudor Lounge at the Savoy last eveninf?. Mr G. A, Thompson, president of the association, remarked that it was extremely gratifying to see such a big attendance of delegates from all over the Dominion for the conference. Commercial education, he said, was by no means the concern of technical schools alone, and he was very pleased that representatives of secondary and private schools who were interested in this work were also present. Mr Thompson spoke of education in its relation to life, and said that schools must be diminutive societies. Mr J. J. Marlow, chairman of the Technical College Board of Managers, welcomed the visitors to the city, and said that the college was at their disposal. “ Yon are doing work of great importance,” he said. “ and I believe a conference such as this is capable of an immense amount of good. Such associations as you will have will broaden you and improve the status of teachers. Thereby the new generation will benefit.” Mr C. C. Roberts, chairman of the Otago branch of the association, _ and Mr D. S. Chisholm, rector of the King’s High School, also cordially welcomed the delegates. During the evening items were given by Miss Ray Stubbs, Mr J. Devereaux, and Mr H. Eggers.
