CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED.

Fatal injuries were suffered by • cyclist when he was involved in a collision with a motor car in Symonds street, Auckland. The victim was Leonard Thomas Kyne Scahill, aged 27, married, of Newton. He was coming out of Whittaker Place, apparently with the intention of proceeding down Symonds street towards the city. The car was being driven down Symonds street by Kenneth Keith. The victim, who suffered a fracture of the base of the skull, -was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he died.

MAORI KILLED UNDER TRAIN. A Tauranga Association message states:—While walking across the railway bridge to Matapihi at 6.45 last night, a well-knowfl Native, Sam Tu, was struck by a train coming to Tauranga. At the time of the accident he was nearly across the bridge. Those on the train were not aware of the accident, and the body, badly mutilated, was found at 7.15 by Tape Faulkner, who was coming to town. He 'immediately communicated with the police, who brought the body to Tauranga. Sam Tu, who was over 70 years old, had resided in the district all his life. He belonged to the Ngatitapu tribe, and was amongst the recipients of the King George VI. Coronation Medal. In his younger days he was a prominent athlete in the Bay of Plenty. He is survived by his wife, a son, and daughter. GELIGNITE EXPLOSION. An inquest on the body of Gavin Charles Cotter, w.ho died in the hospital on July 19 following terrible injuries caused by the explosion of a drill which he was dressing at the Tauraroa quarry, was held to-day. A verdict was returned that death was due to shock following an explosion of gelignita which had accidentally got into a drill during earlier boring operations.—Whangarei Press Association. SLIGHT INJURIES. Robert Weir, a young man, residing at 64 Filleul street, fell off a bicycl# this morning and was admitted to hospital suffering facial abrasions and concussion.
