A despatch by the Commander-in» Chief in India, General Sir Robert Cassels, on the Waziristan operations in 1938 (lays tribute to the work of tbe Royal Air Force. The despatch records that, in accordance with the practice observed throughout the operations, whenever recourse was had to punitive air action against hostile tribes, due warning for the evacuation of women and children was given. Throughout the period reviewed the Fakir of Ipi remained the focus of active hostility. Casualties suffered by the Government forces during 1938 wer* 62 killed and 206 wounded.
