KARORI ROCK LIGHT. The Marine Department has received advice that the Karori Rock light is not functioning. It. will be readjusted as soon as possible. THE WAIOTIRA. NEW SHAW SAVILL MOTOR SHIP. The fifth of a class of almost identical ships built by Harland and- Wolff Ltd., Belfast, for the Shaw Savill and Albion Company Ltd., the Motor ship Waiotira, was launched on August 1, and is to leave Liverpool on December 2 for Auckland. Wellington. Lyttelton, and Dunedin on her maiden voyage.

length,, moulded beam 70ft, and depth 43ft 6in. Her tonnage -will be about 13,000 tons, and the load draughts 29ft (jin. The vessel will have large refrigerated cargo spaces, over half a million cubic feet, of which 110,000 cubic feet will be specially fitted for the carriage of chilled meat. In addition her general cargo spaces will measure about 250,000 cubic feet, giving a total cargo capacity of 750,000 cubic feet. Twelve passengers in eight singlebedstead and two double-bedstead cabins, will be carried, and the public rooms will consist of a dining saloon, smoke room, and lounge. The accommodation for the crew will be in accordance with, and in advance of, the recent Board of Trade Regulations. They will be berthed amidships and aft in two-berth cabins with cot berths in single tier.

The Waiotira will be equipped with the latest devices for navigation and efficiency in control and cargo working. The navigating instruments will incudo a Marconi echo-sounding apparatus and a Sperry gyro compass andl gyro pilot installation. The main propelling machinery will consist of two two-cycle double-acting airless injection Harland-Burmester and Wain type Diesel engines, each having six cylinders, and capable of developing 12.000 b.h.p. for service conditions', the .cylinder covers and packets being fresh water cooled, scavenge air being supplied by rotary blowers driven from the engine crankshaft. The generators will consist of four British Polar Diesel engines, each directly coupled by a dynamo, and each generating 300 kw. There will bo two Clarkson waste heat boilers made by Harland and Wolif. the steam being generated at sea by the gases from .the main engine exhaust, and alternatively Todd oil burners are fitted for port use. The vessel will be equipped with auxiliary pumps, etc., by Worthington, Simpson, and Stothert, and Pitt for the various cervices, the motors of which are being built by Harland and Wolff. The deck machinery will consist of 20 Laurence Scott winches, a Clarke Chapman windlass, and Hastie electric hydraulic steering gear. The refrigerating machinery is by J. and E. Hall Ltd., of Darfford, and consists of three sets of horizontal enclosed typo machines, each having two singleacting forged steel compressors, and driven through flexible couplings by variable speed electric motor, together with the necessary C.O. two evaporatqree.CiO: two condensers, arid electric-a ally driveir brine pumps, etc. The : system of cooling the holds is of the latest design of air cooling by batteries and fans. TAMAROA ARRIVES HOME. The Shaw Savill Company lias received cabled advice that its liner Tomaroa reached Southampton at 5. p.m. last Wednesday.
