The Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company of Auckland, assisted by local workmen, commenced the work of clearing and relining with cement the water mains in Lawrence last week by the “ Tate ” process system. The contractors expect to be about eight or nine weeks on the work, with an average of half a mile a week. SHEEP WORRYING. Several cases of sheep worrying have been reported b.v fanners in the district. Sheep have been killed and mauled, and one fanner has destroyed dogs caught worrying on his property. RUGBY FOOTBALL. In a fast and evenly-contested game played at Simpson Park, Lawrence, on Saturday, the visiting South Otago team drew with South Tuapeka, the score being 6 all. In the first spell South Tuapeka had slightly the better of play and were leading at half-time by (3 points to nil, the result of a penalty goal by D. Jones and a try by Stuart. In the second spell Forester kicked a penalty goal and Sband scored a try for ,South Otago. TEVIOT POWER BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Teviot liloctric Power Board was presided over bv the deputy-chairman, Mr G. H. Waigth, an apology being received from the chairman, Mr G. George, who was attending a meeting of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation in Wellington Accounts amounting to £386 2s Id were passed for payment. Receipts for the mouth totalled £493 9s 7d, made up of -—power £343 16s lOd. wiring and showroom £133 3s 3d, cash sales £2O 8s lid, sundries £1 Os 7d. It was decided to apply for authority to the Local Government Loans Boat'd to raise a loan of £I,OOO for the purpose of erecting a dwelling in Roxburgh for an employee of the board.

A letter was received from the Public Works Department regarding the Bengerhurn irrigation scheme. They advised that several alternate schemes for Bengerburn area had been looked into, but so far all have proved too costly or impracticable, and pumping from well seemed now to be worthy of consideration. The department has been assisting in the sinking of a test

well on one of the Ettrick propertie* with a view of obtaining information (in fi><> nndc-"round water supplies of the Ettrick Flat, It was suggested tnai some conference be arranged between the Public Works Department and the board to discuss the question, of irrigation. The question of charge for power foe the heat storage ranges was discussed, and it was decided that the charge for the type of range be the same as for 4 he ordinary standard electric rang#.
