VARSITY AGAIN DEFEAT H. 5.0.8. There was only one senior match played on Saturday. This was played at Tonga Park, which was in good order. Prom the start Old Hoys went to the attack, but were soon driven back. Play centred around Old boys' twenty-live for some time, until they managed to set up an attack. Varsily came back, and byburn had a shot which was saved by Herons. A lew minutes later A lldred • attempted to place the ball in, but again Horens saved. Webb now made a good break upheld to place Old boys on the attack, but the Varsity defence stood the strain. Play now swung up and downfield until the half-time whistle sounded without score.

The second half opened with Old boys going on the attack, but it was soon apparent that the pace of the first spell was taking its toll on the Old boys. Varsity were now showing more combination, and from a snappy piece of play B. O. byburn scored. 1-0. Old boys rushed play to the Varsity goal, hut it was not long before Varsity had scored again, Alldred placing the ball in the net. 2-0. Varsity were still playing excellent hockey, and after they had placed- themselves in a good attacking position by good combined play Yule scored. 3-0. Old boys were still making a few dashes to the Varsity goal-month, but they could not finish off their movements, and the game ended with the score:

Only two second round matches in the senior grade were played. Varsity are on vacation and the A team defaultedl to Otago. The if team were unable to field a team against Momona, who also took their game by default. Dunedin had a stiff fight against Brighton and got home by the odd goal in seven. The Kings v. College game was a good one, although College, playing nine for the greater part of the time, found it impossible to hold the aggressive Kings forward line. KINGS v. TRAINING COLLEGE. Kings, anxious to consolidate their position at head of the list, and College keen to revenge their previous defeat, got to work early in their match at Oval Ko. 1. A bad ground slowed up the play, but there was much good hockey. Two good forward lines met stiff opposition, for both sets of backs gave a Stirling display of the defensive game, and repeatedly turned defence into attack. Play was of an up-an-down nature, the iliners finding it hard to penetrate; but College, with nine playeys for the most of the time, had no chance of heading Kings was a good game under poor' conditions, and the final whistle found the score; Kings G, College 1. Messrs T A. Mulholland and D. Miller were the umpires. DUNEDIN v. BRIGHTON. Another hard game resulted by the meeting of these teams, who both shine on defensive work. Poor scoring forwards failed to take many chances, and the score was a low one. Play was of an. up-and-down nature, Miss Stevens (Dunedin) and Miss Kennedy proving thorns in Brighton’s side. They repeatedly bold up the Brighton attacks. Conditions underfoot were had, and players found it hard to keep their ffeet. A good even game re-sulted:—-Dunedin 4, Brighton li. Dr Monheimer and K. Dyason controlled the game. B GRADE. Taieri 2, Bounty 0. Momona 4. Training College 3. Otago 4, West Taieri 2. West Harbour won by default from Dunedin. C GRADE. Taieri 8, Kings 0.

. WIN FOR FIJIAN TEAM [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 20. Tilt* touring Fijian hockey team defeated Auckland province by one goal to nil. Bay scored the only goal for the winners. In a challenge for the New Zealand challenge shield Auckland (holders) defeated Waikato by 3 goals to nil. Houghton (2) and Rowe scored goals for Auckland, and Ewon for Waikato.
