Sir. —Your contributor “ L.D.A.,” in an article published in yonr issue of August 19, imputes ignorance on my part as to the facts surrounding the substitution of Mrs Patrick Campbell for Miss Elizabeth Pobins in the part of Paula Tanqueray. - 1 was'cognisant of these facts when I wrote ‘ Unto Him that Hath.’ Perhaps “ ousting ” was an inappropriate word to use. After all, it was Alexander and Pinero who did the ousting. 1 hare as great an admiration for the sweet reasonableness of Miss Itobins as has “ L.D.A.” Indeed. she appears to have been more than reasonable. She was supererogatory. She was also philosophical, as she took to novel writing. For the moment I cannot recall the name of another English actress of distinction who lias also been a novelist. “ L.D.A..”-

may be able to cite one or two instances. Clemenco Dane may have walked ou before she wrote ‘ A Bill of Divorcement.’ Her knowledge of stage technique certainly suggests experience as an actress. —1 am, etc., C. 11. Allen. August 21.
