MONTHLY MEETIHG The monthly meeting of tho committee of the Otago A. and P. Society held on Thursday afternoon, was attended by Messrs W. Lee (in tho chair, A. C. Begg, S. Mosley, J. Allison, H. M. Driver, 11. A. S. Cantrell, D. Ireland, W. S. Thomson, J. Hellyer, J. Young C. M. Bruce, K. Clark, J. N. Murdoch, and J. Mitchell. Before commencing the business, the chairman referred to the death of Mr A. J. Allen, and a resolution of sympathy was carried. Reference was made to the health of Mr S. Bowman, the society’s treasurer, and it was with deep regret that members learned of his severe illness. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) and express the committee’s pleasure with the reports of his rapid recovery, SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS. The Finance Committee reported having considered accounts amounting to £219 15s 2d, and recommended tlieso for payment. —Passed. It was noted that the bank balance was £790 Os 3d in credit, and outstanding cheques amounted to £9O 15s 4d. The Motor Camp statement for the year was considered, and the tender of Mr J. R. Slemint accepted for the extensions to the camp, which are to be carried out, the cost shared with the Automobile Association (Otago). The Grounds and Buildings Committee reported that skylights in the Crawford street buildings and the Tahuna fence had been damaged during the snowstorm, and repairs had been carried out. Renovations to the caretaker’s residence at Tahuna Park had also been put in hand. Floodlighting for the night carnival at the show was considered, and it was decided to leave this to Mr Mitchell to confer with Mr ,F. J. Lough and have the necessary poles erected. The Chairman of the Draught Horse Committee submitted the following judges’ names in order of preference for the horse parade to be held at Tahuna Park on September 21: —Messrs W. Doak (Rakaia). H. E. Cook (Christchurch), and A. Geddes (Methven). The secretary reported that the ewe hogget competitions, would be commenced about the middle of September in the Maniototo district and it was decided to ask Mr R. Jopp (Moutere) to act as judge and the president and Mr J. A. Fowler to represent the society at these competitions. SUMMER SHOW. After further consideration, the proposal to hold this year’s ai'iamer show on ono day only instead of two as previously was carried, and it was decided that the show be held on November 22 with the night carnival on November 21. It was considered that this would be in the interests of all concerned as it would reduce exhibitors’ costs and transport and. labour charges, and would tend to increase the number of exhibits at the show. Exhibitors with stock coming by road would be able to get in the night before the show and back hoirie the afternoon of the show in one trip for the lorries. It was considered that the attendance at the show would also be increased, as all the judging and competitions being on the one dpy would provide an attractive programme. An offer from Mr R. Fortune, .of Fairlie, to give a demonstration with five flogs working together at the show was accepted, members considering that this would be an attraction which would be of very wide interest. A letter from the Department of Internal Affairs offering special centennial prize cards for the . show was received with thanks, and it was decided that an endeavour be made to get special woollen champion and reserve champion ribbons for this show. —The secretary was instructed to report to the next meeting regarding what was available. EXPORT LAMB COMPETITION. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board wrote regarding the 1939 export lamb competition and drew special attention to altered conditions for this year. Mr Clark on behalf of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, offered the facilities of his company. to hold the competition for this district at tho Burnside freezing works, and was thanked by the chairman for the. offer, which made it possible for the society to stage this competition.
