Donnelly, • chairman of directors of tho Bank of New Zealand, returned from Australia by the Awatea. At a special meeting of the Roslyn Bowling Club Mr C. E. Tyrrell wa» elected president in place of Mr A. J, Allen, whose death occurred recently Mr Denzil Slyfield left on .Thursday, for Wellington and New Plymouth. Miss Noeline Parker left by the express this morning for Christchurch. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) has appointed tha following District Committee at Green Island under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act, 1937: —The mayor (Mr G. A. Orange), Crs J. Boomer and C. R. Freeman, and Messrs S. J. Andrew R. J. K. Gillies, J. C. Smith, and H. G. Taylor. At the offices of Messrs Bray _ Bros* Ltd. on Thursday afternoon Miss, N, Souness and Mr D. M'Callum, member* of the staff, were made a presentation of a silver tea service and a chiming clock on the, eve of their, approaching marriage. Mr H. C. Williamson, the manager, in making the presentation on behalf of the directors and staff, spoke in complimentary terns of the qualities of the recipients. He stated that the members of the staff .had assembled on four occasions recently to extend marriage felicitations, and in three cases tho contracting parties had both been members of the staff. Ho considered this was unique. - -Mr A. Burton, on behalf of the retail trade, made a presentation of a barometer, -■ crystal jug, decanter, and. tumblers. Brigadier H. B. Kingsley, D. 5.0., and Hon. Mrs Kingsley arrived at Weilington on Thursday from Sydney in the course of a tour of 'the world. Brigadier Kingsley retired recently from the post of commandant of the Indian Military Academy, Debra Dun, United Provinces, and though still on the active list, will retire from the Army at the conclusion of his tour. , Mrs is a daughter of the previous Lord AiredaleDr L. C. M'Niekle, who is shortly to begin work with. Dr : R. A. Shore as inspector of hospitals, arrived from Sydney by the Awatea, accompanied by Mrs M’Niekle. Dr M'Niekle was formerly medical registrar l and deputy superintendent of the Wellington Hospital before.holding the office of superintendent of the Invercargill Hospital between 1933 and the end of last year. Dr M'Niekle has been abroad all this year, spending most of his time in various countries of Europe. He did postgraduate work in London and in most countries he visited he inspected the principal hospitals. Mr A. S. Wansbrough, who has been designing engineer in the New Zealand Railways since 1925 and attached to the head office at Wellington, has. retired on superannuation because of.'illhealth. He was met yesterday .by tho general manager (Mr G. H. Mackley), executive officers, and members of tho maintenance branch, when- tribute* were ’paid- to his; efficiency as~ a • railway engineer. ■ ■Mr Wansbrough was' presented with a wristlet watch aha a camera. Mr C:' Wilson has succeeded Mr Wansbrough as designing engineer. A. Press Association cable' message from Apia states that Dr 'W. A. Hogg, who has been relieving medical officer at the Government hospital for the last five months during tho absence on furlough of Dr Monaghan, fractured his thigh when he slipped on a banana and fell. Ho was due to sail-with Mrs Hogg and* their daughter for Wellington in' the Maui Potnare to-day ■ ’
