GIBRALTAR IS COVETED
SPAIN'S HOPES ITALIAN PRESS ECHOES LONDON. August 5. Spain’s claim to Gibraltar continues to be emphasised not only by the Spanish Press, but by the Italian Press, and by Spanish radio stations. Tho Spanish Press repeatedly declares that Spain expects to retake Gibraltar, and that the problem will settled satisfactorily. Indeed, it is being remarked that one cannot glance at the Spanish Press on this subject without being struck by the similarity between the confidence wfith windy the Spanish Press announces .its belief that Gibraltar will return to Spain and the confidence which the German Press expresses over a satisfactory outcome of the Danzig problem. Typical Spanish phrases are:. “England’s occupation of tho Rock is a permanent offence to Spain,” and “Wo are sure our soldiers will reach a satisfactory conclusion over Gibraltar.” The attitude of the Italian Press is seemingly summed up in a newspaper phrase: “Tbe British fia» over Gibraltar infuriates Spaniards.” Observers believe that tbe campaign has all tbe marks of being carefully planned, ami it is expected that it will be sustained at least for some time.
