[From O'ck Oamaru Cokuespoxdent.] PRESBYTERY. At. the meeting of Hie Oamaru Presbytery yesterday the , Rev. W. L. Marsh was appointed to raise the necessary quota towards the fund to assist ■ a refugee pastor from Germany, the Rev. H. Uehbien. Mr Marsh, on behalf of the Young Men’s Bible Class District Committee, moved that the Government be urged to take a fair ' quota of refugees over a period of years and that the Presbytery pledge itself to give financial assistance. The resolution was carried. The third Sun- ' day in August was set aside for services on the subject of refugees. A proposal to produce a pageant, The Church of the Living Word,’ during the Centennial celebrations was approved. Motions against the establish"ment of a stipends board and that no good purpose could be served by pursuing the question of ministerial stipends were passed. Tiie Public Ques- ' tions Committee was asked to approach the North Otago Rugby Union regarding Sunday practices of teams. BAPTIST MEN’S FELLOWSHIP. A successful- inaugural meeting of the Baptist Men’s Fellowship, formed to discuss current affairs and the Chris- . ti'an contribution to society, was addressed bv Mr. F. A. Crimp on Jewish history.. ‘The Rev. J. T. Crozier was elected chairman, Mr W. Weal cans and .Mr G, Carrad pianist. NEW BRIDGE OPENED. The new bridge at Otckaike was officially declared oipen on Saturday in • the presence of many residents of the district. It is 120 feet long, of., three 40ft spans, and is built of reinforced concrete. Mr J. S. Adams presided, and : other speakers were Messrs J. Rodman (chairman of the Waitaki County Council), Evans. (Public Works Department engineer). D. C. Kidd, M.Ph, and A. H. M'Kinnon. Mrs M’Kinnon cut the ribbon and declared the bridge open.
