Mr W. Begg, chairman of the Harbour Board, left by the second express this morning for Christchurch to attend the quarterly meeting of the South Islands Travel Association.' Mr N. D. Anderson left by the 11.35 express this morning for Christchurch. Mr J. E. Macassey was a passenger bound for Wellington. Mr N. T. Lambourne, Director. of Education,, arrived yesterday to attend the fiftieth, jubilee celebrations of the King Edward Technical College, which were commenced last night. Sympathetic reference to the illness of the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) was expressed at the meeting of, the South Otago Hospital Board yesterday, and it _ was decided to write expressing best wishes for his speedy recovery. 1 _ Mr G. B. Beath, lecturer in science in the Dunedin Training College, will leave for England on August 18. This year he was awarded a. Carnegie Fellowship in Education by the University of New Zealand, and will study educational movements overseas during the tenure of the fellowship. His headquarters for the year will he the Institute of Education, University of London. Mr H. A. Bland, who has been appointed secretary of the New South Wales Government office in London, to succeed Mr A. K. Weir, was a through passenger by the Aorangi from Sydney. He is accompanied by Mrs Bland,\ and expects to be stationed in London for about five years. The mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) and Cr H. L. Gibson left by the first express this morning to attend the quarterly meeting of the South Islands Travel Association at Christchurch. Staying at Wain’s Hotel are: Mr L. : F.
