SOUTH OTAGO NOTES

[From Oue Correspondent.] Owing to the, inclement weather all sports in South Otago were postponed, and the week-end passed very quietly. The weather to-day (Sunday) has been showery, and this morning there was a light coating of snow on the ground. There is still a good deal of surface water on the low-lying flats, but danger of serious flooding appears to Ijp past. The Molyneux River has dropped back to almost normal. Road and rail transport is again all clear, and the experience. of the past week is now only a memory. The railway staff had a very busy time owing to drifts in cuttings' and danger of slips. All-night shifts were on duty, and the men had a trying time. "However, they stuck to their guns, and credit is due to them for the way they worked under most adverse conditions. The exchange staffs at the different post offices were also worked at high pressure owing to people being unable to get out and about. The phone certainly was much availed of during the past week, and the exchange stall’s are amongst the most pleased that the rough spell is over.
