Coursing in Wairarapa. The Wairarapa Coursing Club has held three very successful meetings during the present season. The club’s enclosure at Akura, Masterton, is in splendid order, and the appointments on this ground are definitely the best in New Zealand to-day. The hares are racing well up to standard, and very few kills have been recorded. The coursing has been of a very high order. The public in the Wairarapa district is turning out in numbers for the fixtures.

Mr L. M. Archer has again taken up the secretarial reins, and under

his guidance the officials are doing splendid work. Following are the results:— The Archer Cup Stake, an open one, was for eight dogs (winner £5 10s and cup; runner-up £2 10s). —First Round.— Mr D. Wilson’s Big Ben (Noontide —Watch Her) beat Mr J. Hare’s (N.S.) Great Worry (Why WorrySultana) after a good course, by 2 points. Mrs L. H. Jones’s The Slam (Flying Tackle—Silver Veil) beat Mr J. Crawford’s Jeanne (Red Rufus—Silver Hope). This was a great course on a very clever and determined hare. The Slam finally winning by 2£ points. Messrs Butcher Bros.’ Pull o’ Gay (Black Charter-Full o’ Joy) beat Mr D. Wilson’s White Gold (Solitaire — White Butterfly). In a splendid course, on a fast ;and very clever hare, both dogs went well, but Full o’ Gay won very easily by 7 points. Both dogs were tiring as the course ended. Messrs James and Taylor’s The Clipper (Cin Paph—Rushing Footsteps) beat Mrs B. Mosen’s British Pride (Failworth Pride—Not a Doubt). A strong hare was released, and after a fast and exciting course the winner had 3 points in his favour. —Second Round.— Big Ben beat The Slam. In this course the former led up well and had 44 points to spare as the course closed. The Clipper beat Full o’ Gay, both dogs going well The latter did not appear to have properly recovered from her gruelling course in the first round, and when the chase .ended The Clipper had 1£ points to spare. -FinalBig Ben beat The Clipper. Both dogs went up fast, but the former, racing in

great heart, won comfortably by three points. The Puppy Stakes was for the Bradbury trophy, in addition to which the winner received £3 and the runnerup £l. —First Round.— Mr J. Hare’s The Trump (Wild Chase—Fiery Footsteps) beat R. Southey’s Attarere (Rereatu —Full-o’-Joy). The former led up and won well by three points. Mr W. Spring’s Julius Caesar (Rereatu —Sweet Shamrock) beat Blazer, owned by Mr J. Peters. The former, racing in excellent style, led up and worked the hare cleverly to win by five and a-half points. —Final.— Julius Cassar beat The Trump. This was a fast and exciting course, in which both dogs scored well, the winner having one and a-half points in his favour as the hare went home. Combined Consolation Trophy for dogs beaten in the first round of the Archer Cup and Puppy Stakes. —First Round. — Great Worry beat Jeanne. The former went a great course and won easily by five points. British Pride beat White Gold after a very even course, in which the former had one point advantage. Attarere beat Blazer This was a short course, neither dog going too well. Attarere at the finish had two points in his favour. —Second Round.— Great Worry beat British Pride again. Great Worry went a good course and did not leave the verdict in doubt, finally winning with three points to spare.

s Attarere ran a bye. —Final.— Great Worry beat Attarere after a disappointing course, in which the winS ner completely outclassed his opponent to win by two and a-half points. r a SECOND MEETING. c Grimwood Cup (Maiden Stake), win- ,, ner £9 and cup; runner-up £4 10s; two y Y dogs at £1 6s each. —First Round.— jj Mr J. H. Prout’s China Clipper bent „ Mr R. S. Kilgour’s Skittle, after a e short course, by three points. Mr J. Hare’s Golden Gem beat Mr F. Riding’s Mungi Taipo. This was a great ) course between two well-matched dogs. P The points throughout fluctuated, and i at the finish the winner had only half r a point in his favour, r Messrs Archer Bros.’ Trouble beat Mr A. La Roche’s Sergeant Dan rather easily by three and a-half points. Mr F. Riding’s Mosquito Kid beat s Mr W. L. Jensen’s Snowdrift. This was 1 another even course, and as the hare • went home the winner had a two-point 1 advantage. t Mr P, Radcliffe’s Gay Master beat • Mr J. Crawford’s Jeanne by two points k after a short course. 2 . Mr J. H. Proutt’s Small Boy beat Mr W. Spring’s Ballaramaine. The winner completely outclassed his op- , ponent, having a five-point lead at the ’ close. 1 Mr J. Hare’s The Trump beat Mr M. Fletcher’s Mighty Fluke by one point in a very short course. Mr R. Southey’s Attarere beat Mr E. Burgess’s Sady Luck by two points in a short course’. —Second Round.— China Clipper beat Golden Glen in a long and strenuous course by seven points, Golden Glen still feeling the effects of his strenuous course in the first round. Mosquito Kid beat Trouble by one and a-half points after a well-contested course. Gay Master beat Small Boy. This was a very one-sided course, the former winning easily by five and a-half points. The Trump beat Attarere. In this course the latter was completely out- i classed, being four points down when the hare went home. —Semi-final.— China Clipper beat Mosquito Kid in a fair course by three and a-half points. The Trump beat Gay Master by two points in a very short course. —Final.— China Clipper beat The Trump. Both dogs worked the hare well, especially the former, who was racing in great form. Once in on the game China Clipper is a hard one to take possession off, and although The Trump went a great course he was seven and a-half points down at the close of the course. Open Stake. Winner £5 10s, runnerup £2 10s. —First Round.— Mr W. L. Jensen's Helen Rufus beat T. E. Lang’s Leading Through in a fair course by two and a-half points. Messrs Butcher Bros.’ Full-O’-Gay boat Mr C. Bowden’s Southern Voyage after a long and strenuous course, the margin being seven and a-half points. Mr W. Spring’s Julius Cassar beat Messrs M'Grath and Cooke’s (N.S.) Sultan. This was another long and strenuous course in which the former worked well to win by six and a-half points. Messrs James and Taylor’s Dainty Footsteps beat Mr J. Ryan’s (N.S.) Glen Boy after an excellent course with the former, who was doing it best, getting the flag by a margin of two points. —Semi-final.— Helen Rufus beat Full-o’-Gay in a very short course by one and a-half points. i
