POLICE COURT

SATURDAY, JULY 22. (Before Mr J. H. Dixon, S.M.) REMAND GRANTED. Mary Ann Tohill (76) was charged with drunkenness, having been once previously convicted in the last six months. Senior-sergeant Claason told the court that the accused was arrested at 2.55 p.m. yesterday by Constable Clearwater following a complaint that the defendant had been found asleep on business premises. To-day the defendant was scarcely able to put foot to tiio ground on account of an injured ankle, and had to be taken to the Hospital. When arrested she was so helplessly drunk that she had to be carried out. A remand was granted for a week. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender, for drunkenness,- was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. FURTHER CHARGES TO BE PREFERRED. William Stewart Horne Paulin (55), a statutory first offender, was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, on a charge of drunkenness. A further charge of the theft at Studholme of a bicycle, valued at £5, the property of J. Kirk, was preferred against Paulin, Senior-sergeant Claasen applying for a remand until Wednesday next, as there were further charges and matters to be inquired into. The accused was remanded until Wednesday next.
